A tribute to the household: domestic economy and the encomienda in colonial Peru. - Austin - US Institute of Latin American Studies 1982 - 37 p.

Contiene: The historical period that produced the visita, about midway between its inception and its deemphasis and eventural liquidation, is also the period in which the crown began more and more to interfere and direct fate of encomiendas. The Toledan reforms that began in 1570 radically altered Andean social institutions, chaged tribute to a head tax to be paid to the crown (though that did not imply that for a long time the Indians were not paying tribute to both crown and encomendero and through reducciones, drastically reordered the relations of the villagers. After the Toledan roform many of the institutional continuities that had originated in Inca society were drastically cut off.
