Revisión: The proposed research will investigate the limits within which Andean pastoral producers can manipulate and direct the course of local economic change in rural highland Bolivia. Building on my earlier research on alpaca herders in southers Peru. I will focus on the ongoing interaction among the external pressures of an expanding market, gobernment policies directed toward integrating rural producere into the national economy of Bolivia, and the internal structure of pastoral production and exchange.
