La historiografía boliviana -con sesgo andinocentrista- nada dice de los esfuerzos del Beni en la defensa de la soberanía y los hidrocarburos del país, durante la Guerra del Chaco. Por si eso fuese poco, no han faltado voces cruceñas y andinas que negaron la presencia del soldado beniano en los candentes arenales del sudeste o que llegaron tarde al teatro de operaciones. Este trabajo demuestra todo lo contrario. Se apoya en datos de los primeros contingentes benianos que marcharon a las trincheras en forma espontánea, apenas tronó el clarín de la Patria, aunque una de estas iniciales movilizaciones hubiera sido un fracaso por la ruta equivocada. Pero sobre todo, se nutre en el testimonio objetivo y brutal de aquella otra leyenda beniana que parió el Chaco: Carmelo Cuéllar Jiménez. Todos hacen notar que a partir de las nuevas movilizaciones que fueron llegando al Chaco en febrero de 1934, los contingentes benianos tonificaron al ejército en campaña y resultaron decisivos para recuperar territorios que ya estaban en manos paraguayas. The Bolivian historiography -with a andean slant- nothing says of the efforts of the Beni in the defense of the sovereignty and hydrocarbons of the country, during the War of the Chaco. However Andean and Santa Cruz voices denied the presence of the beniano soldier in the burning sandy grounds of the Southeast or says that they arrived later at the theater of war. This work demonstrates all the opposite. One leans in data of the first benianos contingents that marched spontaneously to trenches, as soon as the bugler of the Mother country roared, although one of these initial mobilizations had been a failure by the mistaken route: the eastern mountain. But mainly, it is nourished in the objective and brutal testimony of that other beniana legend that give birth the Chaco: Carmelo Cuéllar Jiménez. All make notice that from the new mobilizations that went arriving at the Chaco in February of 1934, the benianos contingents support to the active army and turned out decisive to recover territories that already were in Paraguayan hands.
