Contiene: The lower Omo valley in southern Ethiopia has been known as one of the "last untouched areas of Africa". It has never been colonized for any prolonged periods and up to the 1960's, it remained fairly unknown. Since then, anthropologists like Serge Tornay, David Turton, Uri Almagor and others have given us first-hand information on some of the pastoral peoples that inhabit this region. Starvation and peace or food and war? is an account of the recurrent armed conflicts in this area. It compiles facts from published works by the mentioned anthropologists, from unpublished sources, like SPCM statistics for the last two decades, and from the author's brief fieldwork. It also discusses the reasons behind these conflicts, as well as some theoretical and practical implicatios of these hostilities.
