520 _aPaleoeskimo Artifacts from the Pond Inlet region have been known since Mathiassen carried out archaeological excavations in 1923, although for some time they were not recognized as such by their discoverer. A short description of the main sites known at the present time and of the most characteristic artifacts will be given here. Some conclusions will then be drawn concern- ing the local aspects of the Pre-Dorset and Dorset cultures, and their implications.
